    African Books Collective Chairman Walter Bgoya delivered the keynote address entitled 50 Years of Independence: Reflections on the Role of Progressive African Intellectuals at the ASA UK conference last month. John Ruganda

John Ruganda is a professor of creative writing, and has taught at the University of Nairobi, Makerere University and the University of North, South Africa. He is best known as a playwright, who contributed to the development of theatre in East Africa and worked with the Makerere Travelling Theatre, the University of Nairobi's Travelling Theatre and the Nairobi University Players.
