African Traditional Religion and The Christian Faith

The continuing revival of traditional African religion presents an unavoidable challenge to African Christianity. While Africans today are being exposed to modern education, traditional thought is still the source of the basic world-view of most of the people, and the growing Christian population is not exempt from this influence. This book provides a new, constructive and critical approach to African traditional religion, from the standpoint of Christian faith. The major issues discussed are: African beliefs about God; sources of African knowledge about God; African beliefs about the spirit world; worship of the spirits; and African beliefs about sacrifice and sacrifice in a biblical perspective.
