Cost Sharing in Public Higher Education Institutions in Ethiopia with Special Emphasis on Addis Ababa and Adama Universities

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of cost sharing scheme in enhancing revenue generation in public higher education in Ethiopia in order to improve the quality of the teaching and learning environment. Furthermore, the study has attempted to assess problems/challenges experienced by students as well as other government bodies related to cost sharing scheme. To this effect, both quantitative and qualitative research approaches were used.

About the Authors

Wanna Leka

Wanna Leka currently is Associate Professor and lectures at the Institute of Educational Research, Addis Ababa University. He obtained his PhD in the U.S.A. During 1992 – 1994 he worked as General Manager for the Educational Materials Production and Distribution Agency (EMPDA). He has also served as a consultant for the African Union Education Section and UNESCO/IICBA. Dr. Wanna has authored and co-authored a number of evaluation reports arising from his consultative work.

Desalegn Chalchisa

Desalegn Chalchisa currently is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Educational Research, Addis Ababa University. He obtained his PhD in India, from Andhra University. During 1981 – 1990 he worked as an instructor of Psychology at the Asmara Teachers Training Institute. He has also served as a consultant for Basic Education Overhaul System. He served also as a Director of the Institute of Educational Research, Addis Ababa University. Dr. Desalegn has authored and co-authored a number of evaluation reports arising from his consultative work.
