Pieces of Time
An Anthology of Articles on Zimbabwean Stone Sculpture
Art historian and cultural commentator, Celia Winter-Irving is presently the curator of the National Gallery in Zimbabwe. She works and writes extensively on art and sculpture, and is the author of no less than eight books on the subject. Winter-Irving was previously the director of the Irving Sculpture Gallery in Sidney, and she lectures regularly on Zimbabwean stone sculpture in Europe, Australasia and North America. In Zimbabwe, she has had a long association with the Chapungu Sculpture Park. She is a regular newspaper columnist on art and sculpture in Zimbabwe, and in relation to other cultures.
This book brings together some seventy- five of the author's articles from The Herald and The Zimbabwe Mirror written over a period of five years, with photographs of some of the objects of art about which she is writing. Together the articles constitute a contemporary study of one of the great traditions of sculpture, which has given rise to some of the great stone sculptors of the world.
