The Art of the Weya Women

Winner of the German Foundation for Book Art and Design, best designed book from developing countries. This beautifully produced book, with many vivid colour photographs, is a collaboration between rural African women and a European artist. Through their art, the women revealed aspects of their lives and traditions. They talk about their work in the captions that run alongside the colour photographs of the best of their artwork. In the accompanying text, the women talk about their worlds of marriage and children, sexuality and death, spirits and ancestors, hopes and worries.
