The New Partnership for Africa's Development

Nepad is a new North-South partnership to resolove conflicts, promote good governance, and integrate Africa into the global economy. This paper analyses its priority sector proposals, arguing these are problematic, and may be unrealistic in the long-term. It makes alternative recommendations - e.g. setting short and medium term goals to provide basic infrastructure - to sustain support for the project, which is nonetheless views as the last and best chance for the world's poorest countries to take responsibilities for their problems.
