The Whirlwind
A Novel
by Chijioke Ogbuike
The Whirlwind weaves together the lives of individuals swept up in a powerful current of change due to ambition, societal expectations, and the quest for personal freedom. Emenike Ugwuanya, a teacher in the village called Agbani, leads a routine life until his world is upended by the sudden departure of his wife, Nogozi Wabash, for parts unknown to him. Soon after, circumstances also force Emenike to leave the village for Lagos. Lagos is the home ground of Dama Group of Companies with its consortium of businesses presided over by Dama Snr whose son Akelboni Dama lived the life of a playboy before circumstances thrust upon him the navigation of one of the businesses within the fold of Dama Group of companies. The hasty departure of Nogozi from her husband lays the foundation for other discoveries with deep implications on the lives of those connected in this whirlwind in more ways than one.
