Marc Epprecht

Marc Epprecht is a professor in the Department of Global Development Studies at Queen's University. Gender, sexuality and human rights have been a strong theme in his work but increasingly he has focused on the imperatives of transition to environmentally just societies in Africa and globally. Marc has won numerous awards for his work, including the DESMOND TUTU AWARD for outstanding contributions to the study of gender and sexuality in Africa (2009) and, with editorial team, DARTMOUTH MEDAL for most outstanding reference work for Global Encyclopedia of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer History (2020). Marc has been a Lecturer or Visiting Research Fellow at the U. of Zimbabwe, National University of Lesotho, U. of Basel, and the UKZN. He is currently a research affiliate with the History Workshop at Wits University in Johannesburg. Marc was a member of the 1980 Canadian Olympics gymnastics team and York University Athlete of the Year.
