Ousmane Oumar Kane
Ousmane Oumar Kane currently occupies the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Chair of Contemporary Islamic Religion and Society at the Divinity School of Harvard University. He holds an MA in Islamic Studies from the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, with MPhil and PhD in Political Science from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. He has previously held academic appointments at Columbia University, Yale University, the University of Kansas, and the University of London. His recent books include Muslim Modernity in Post-Colonial Nigeria (2003), The Homeland is the Arena: Religion, Transnationalism and the Integration of Senegalese Immigrants in America (2011), and Timbuktu and Beyond: Rethinking African Intellectual History (forthcoming).
