ASR was founded twelve years ago as a politically independent, specialist consultancy to address the key social issues involved in South Africa's transition to an effective post-apartheid democracy. Essentially a network of senior academics and policy-makers in the private and public sectors, it has worked extensively, but not solely, at the interface between social justice, transformation and entrepreneurial development in the extractive industries. Clients have included the major mining corporations, the labour movement, government and the NGO sector in South Africa and the Southern African region.
